Final rulebook check

Hi there,

I am coming with good news: the rulebook is finally finished. The time has come to share it and please check it. This is the last check and chance for any modification before I send it to the manufacturer and mass production can be started. So if you find any misspellings or mistakes please let me know. You can post comments in the pdf or write me in pm.

Hi there,

I hope you enjoy summer and can relax!

In this update, I share the actual news regarding the manufacturing and overall process. 

Let me start with very good news: the plastic components are finished, see some pictures below:

On the other hand, the print-type components are in still progress, and 1 thing is still missing that is the rulebook. This is mainly because the last chapter (coop mode, which was a stretch goal) took more time to finalize. For me quality and the playing experience is very important, so I didn't want to rush with it just because of the deadline. But now it is finished, and the graphic designer started to work on it.  In the next update, I will share the final rulebook so you can check it before the mass production.

Overall, regarding the timeline, I think manufacturing can be finished in August, in September at latest and freight can be started during autumn. My main goal is to deliver Legacy of Thracks this year to all backers and now I think this is a realistic goal.

Hello there!

Today, in this short update, I would like to share the current status and what is going on:

To be honest the overall process is a bit slower than I expected before, but there is nothing bad at all. I am in active communication with the manufacturer, and they reported that they have finished the wood tokens and plastic crystals and soon they would finish the miniatures. After that, they will start the print components. I sent everything to them except the rulebook which is the last and I still need to update the text according to the test results and final rules.

 In the previous month, we finalized the Storybook (text + graphic design), check 2 sample pages:

And one more important thing, mainly for the All-in backers: We can decide which pre-shaded effect you prefer. Please let me know in the comments or in PM which you like the most. The grey or the brown base color style?:

At this moment, as I see the remaining tasks, the delivery is realistic during the autumn (of course if there won't be any big logistical surprise which is always a risk.:)

Hi Heroes!

In this short update, I talk about the current status of production:

The biggest milestone for sure is that the manufacturer sent me samples of miniatures. To be honest I am absolutely satisfied. The quality is perfect and they are beautifully detailed. Let's have a look at them and tell me in the comments which one is your favourite:

Only minor modifications are needed, for example, the ring base size is not proper (too big) so it should be aligned, and 2 parts were broken during shipping (the lamp of the Lost Soul and the shield of the Warrior), so those parts will be strengthened. And please, don't forget, these are just samples, not the final mass-produced minis. Oh, and one more thing: there is 1 hidden thing on each Hero that connects them, can you guess what it is? Share your ideas in the comments.:)

Besides this, the manufacturer started to work on the other non-print components such as tokens, resources (crystals)...etc.

We are still working on some print components, but many of them are finished (board, shadow extension, resource sheet, character sheets, and the solo sheet). I uploaded them, please check them and let me know (here in the comments or in PM) if you see any mistakes or misspellings before the mass production starts.

Hi future Heroes!

In this upgrade, I will share some news about the game development and manufacturing status. 

But before that, just a fun thing: It was my honor that a local board game expo organizer, Kornél Balogh invited me to their event. I could show Legacy of Thracks, and everybody who tried it enjoyed and loved it!:) The table was busy most of the time but many people just stopped there and checked the game - I think because it can be seen for the first sight that it is big, it is epic and visually very attractive. And moreover, the local television made a short interview with me, so I will be on the television (it's just crazy!:) Thank you very much for this opportunity! (I am on the 2nd image on the right)

Game development

In this section, I will share some new or modified rules:

SHADOW EXTENSION

Before the modification, a quick overview: the Shadow extension is in play in the Shadow mode. Here the Shadow player can increase the Shadow power and can activate the Sources of Darkness. Originally to activate a Source of Darkness only the required number of crystals and relics should have been placed on it. The color of the crystals didn't matter. After the tests, it came out that it is more interesting if not only the quantity but the color of the crystals is also pre-defined, that's why I changed it. Now you must place the proper crystals.

Before example: here 1 relic and 2 (any kind of color) crystals were needed to activate the Source of Obstruction 

After example: here 1 relic, 1 yellow and 1 red crystal is needed


COOPERATIVE MODE

The cooperative mode will be based on the solo mode, so you have to know how the event cards work because that will simulate the Shadow. In the coop mode, every player has to enter Dimara in time otherwise they lose.  In your turn, you can play as normally with just a little modification, that increases the coop feeling (for example players can trade cards, can use each other's road..etc.).  And one more important trick: during setup you will place a "coop scheme" above the magical barriers.  It will define how many players should complete that given magical barrier. A magical barrier is considered as completed only if the required number of players completed that barrier. For example in a 4-player game, some barriers must be completed by all players, some with a minimum of 3 players...etc. It will also highly increase the cooperative feeling and players should communicate and plan together.

LOCATION MODIFICATIONS

Tunnel

From a Tunnel, you can capture a Castle. Originally the cost of the Tunnel was 1 gold and could be used by Heroes and Lost Souls too. During the testing it came out that it is too strong,  so we modified it: the new cost is 1 mana if you use it with a Lost Soul or 1 HP if you use it with a Hero. Besides this, you can use Tunnel for capturing a Castle only once in your turn.

Castle

During the whole development of the game, the effect of the Castle changed many times. The basic concept is that it increases the default gold income by 2. It's still true but there were other effects too: in the latest version (before KS) if you captured a Castle you received 2 gold instantly and also received 1 action card.  After KS during the final tests it came out that it's too strong, so it is changed, and now you will receive only 1 action card. (besides the permanent increased gold income effect).

Source of Life

You can get bonus cards at this location. Bonus cards are like action cards but you can have max. 1 at the same time and their effects are specialized to ease entering Dimara, so they are good in the end-game phase.

Originally the cost was 1+x where you draw x cards and keep 1. So if you pay let's say 3 gold (1+2x) then you can draw 2 cards and keep 1. The intent was to give you this decision about how much you want to decrease the random factor. Besides this when you stepped on the Source of Life you received 1 HP.

 In practice sometimes it was a bit confusing, and don't know exactly why but the location (despite it is in the central) was not used many times. So based on the tests I changed how it works and the new method is: when you step on Source of Life you will get a bonus card for free.  If you don't like it you can draw a new card for 2 gold and keep one. Besides this, if you start your turn with your Hero on the Source of Life location you will get 2 HP and 2 gold / 2 mana, the latter can be decided by you. So overall this location became easier to use and stronger. It will bring more potential conflict and interaction between players. Starting your turn here has a very strong effect (the +2 HP and +2 gold/mana) but in order to achieve this you have to defend and hold your position meaning you will be a target and other Heroes probably will attack you. 

2ND BOARD CONCEPT

In the previous update, I mentioned the new 2nd side of the board is finished. Now I would like to explain the changes and the concept behind them. Let me start with a personal thing: I am also a player and don't really like those games where the 2nd side of the board doesn't offer any new things and experience, only the graphic design is different. So I wanted the 2nd side to give something completely new compared to the original map. After many changes, I think finally I could achieve this. There are four main differences:

  • the overall layout, the positions of the locations are absolutely different
  • the number of locations is different, there are fewer locations in general and from the same type too (for example the new map has only 2 Castles instead of 3 Castles on the original map)
  • the distances of the locations are different, they are closer to each other. This means two things: first, you can do more things in your turn with the same amount of resources since traveling costs less. The 2nd consequence is that the players are closer to each other, it is easier to attack another Hero and overall, this increases the direct and indirect interaction. I mean direct is, for example, the battle, indirect is when you don't want any battle but another Hero blocks a path so you need another route. 
  • central Portal: you can travel from one Portal to another Portal. On the 1st map, Portals are only on the edges of the map. On the 2nd map, there is one central Portal so with this you are even closer to anything and everybody. The whole game became more dynamic and because every player can reach almost everything in their turn there are much more opportunities, and also the feeling of uncertainty is higher due to other player's actions. 

Because of these changes, I recommend playing first on the original map and if you are already familiar with the game just then try the 2nd map. I think it is more difficult to play well on the 2nd map mainly because of the so many options and possible decisions.

Manufacturing news

Regarding manufacturing, not so many things happened due to the Chinese situation (they still have lockdowns and limited capacity) + we are still working on some illustrations and graphic modifications. Currently, in our timeline it's not a problem, I planned for this when calculating the realistic timeline, so overall I think next year's summer delivery is still a valid date. 

But there are 2 topics which could proceed:

  • the manufacturer will send the miniature samples soon. It is very good news and an important milestone. After I receive it and everything is okay they start to create the final molds. 
  • the other thing is that we have the prototype insert design, please check below. In the design, Matt Healey helped me, thank you very much!

I am also a player, so I wanted an insert that will fasten the setup as much as it is possible. With this in mind, you will find the player-specific components separately and all other components are organized in a logical way to ease the setup. And of course, the card slots are designed for sleeved cards.:) It is still in progress, so if you have any feedback or idea don't hesitate to share it with me.
